California Scientists Design Working Tricorder

Scientists at the University of California have created what just might be a working tricorder like the ones used in the Star Trek TV series. They aren’t actually calling it a tricorder, but the Universal Detector is a catchy name never-the-less (and one that will avoid a lawsuit). Is this a new trend (and i am so dumb as to not know about it) or are these guys trying to be really innovative? I was kinda stumped by the concepts that i saw on this website. It pretty much looks like everything you need for creating a niche content website. When did this transformation happen wrt content sellers :)

It's difficult to describe the CBC's Rex Murphy if you're not familiar with Newfoundland...that gritty rock clinging to confederation with Canada in the north Atlantic. Though containing only a miniscule amount of tillable soil the place produces some of the best crops around. Among those crops, consisting mostly of Newfie expat's who have found their place in a world outside of the fishing and maritime industry, are people like Rex Murphy.
